Padel in Corona times

Sports and padel facilities were largely closed in March 2020 due to the outbreak of the coronavirus (Covid-19) and as per government instructions. From the End of April / beginning of May 2020 in some territories and countries there are now the first signs of reopening and the question is what protection and safety measures are to be taken into consideration in the FIRST phases of the opening of your padel facility.

The following points are just a  guideline and the appropriate relaxation of the security measures can be introduced progressively.

Important: The governments decide at what pace the easing can be introduced.

Basically, a padel facility is a service company with a limited risk of infection and below we would like to present 20 protection and safety measures as a proposal for the FIRST opening phases to safely restart your padel area:

  1. Anyone who have been in the immediate vicinity of corona cases and is suspect of infection or have symptoms (especially fever, cough and shortness of breath) should always stay at home. Carry out strong access controls, including temperature screening, health declaration when available. Implement a registration process to facilitate contact tracing. Implement pre-booking system to reduce crowding.
  2. Disinfectant for the hands is provided
  3. Only disposable paper towels are to be used.
  4. The sports area is large enough to ensure physical distancing.
  5. The entrance and exit to/from the facility are separated. The members come in at the main entrance door and leave the facility through the side exits.
  6. Each customer comes individually through the entrance and goes directly to the padel court immediately after registration.
  7. The name, address and telephone number of the customers and the padel Court are properly recorded in the booking system. In the event of an infection, the tracing of the infection chain can be determined.
  8. Only people who know each other can play.
  9. There is only the possibility to play 1: 1. 2: 2 can only be booked by people who live in the same household.
  10. The changing rooms and showers remain closed so far. Customers come and go in sportswear.
  11. Food and drinks can be obtained, but not consumed in the restoration area. The use of the club restaurants is based on the applicable statutory regulations.
  12. Rental rackets are disinfected by personnel or provided with a new overgrip.
  13. The reception desk has a plexiglass panel for your protection.
  14. There is no high-five and handshaking.
  15. The minimum distance to other players of at least 1.5-2 meters must be maintained, i.e. when entering and leaving the court, when changing sides and during breaks.
  16. The player benches are to be positioned with a sufficient distance (at least 1.5-2 meters).
  17. Spectators are not allowed.
  18. Each player takes their own balls. These are marked with his name so that he can use his own balls when serving.
  19. Steel and glass parts on the Padel Court should not be touched with the hands. Wash hands immediately after each game.
  20. Each club appoints a Corona representative to ensure all regulations are met.

Please adhere to the national safety guidelines and do your best to provide a healthy and safe exercise environment. We hope to get over this Corona times so that all sports and padel facilities can work under normal conditions again. After all, exercise promotes health and boosts the immune system.
